Richard Billingham’s Mother (Liz)

Richard Billingham's Mother (Liz)

This photograph represents the relationship between the two people within it. The emptiness in both their faces shows there’s no longer any romance in their marriage and that the occasion caught in the photo is something that happens all the time. The many tattoos that Liz has represents her younger life she had while the dress shows the life she has now. The reflection on the side of Ray’s face shows that the flash was abrasive and the use of flash blur was used to shut out the ambient backdrop light, e.g. House lighting. (this means the flash over powers any other light.)
